Sugar vs. Sprinkles: Which Is Better?

Both options work beautifully, it just depends on the look and texture you want.

Rolling in Granulated Sugar

  • Creates a slight crisp exterior
  • Gives a classic crinkle-cookie look
  • Adds a subtle sparkle

Rolling in Pink Sprinkles

  • More festive and eye-catching
  • Adds texture and crunch
  • Perfect for themed events or Valentine’s content

If you want the best of both worlds, alternate them like you did. It gives variety on the tray and looks amazing in photos.

Strawberry vs. Milk Chocolate Kisses

You can switch up the flavor depending on your vibe:

  • Strawberry kisses amplify the fruity flavor and keep everything pink and cohesive.
  • Milk chocolate kisses balance the sweetness and give a classic chocolate-covered-strawberry taste.

Both are delicious, it just depends if you want bold strawberry or creamy chocolate contrast.

Tips for Perfect Cake Mix Cookies

  • If the dough feels too sticky, chill it for 20–30 minutes.
  • Use parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  • Press the kiss gently so the cookie doesn’t flatten too much.
  • Store in an airtight container for up to 4 days.

How to Store

Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for 3–4 days.

If stacking them, place parchment between layers to prevent the kisses from smudging.

You can also freeze the baked cookies (without the kisses pressed in too deeply) for up to 2 months.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 box (15.25 oz) strawberry cake mix

  • 2 large eggs

  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted

  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for rolling)

  • 1/4 cup pink sprinkles (optional, for rolling)

  • 2430 strawberry or milk chocolate kisses, unwrapped

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. In a large bowl, mix together the strawberry cake mix, eggs, and melted butter until fully combined. The dough will be thick and slightly sticky.

  3. Scoop about 1 tablespoon of dough and roll into balls. Roll each ball in granulated sugar or pink sprinkles (you can alternate for both).

  4. Place on prepared baking sheet about 2 inches apart.

  5. Bake for 8–10 minutes, until the edges are set. The centers will look slightly soft — that’s perfect.

  6. Remove from oven and immediately press one unwrapped kiss into the center of each cookie.

  7. Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. The chocolate will soften but will set again as they cool.
